The Escambia County Tax Collector's Office Web site is back online after being hacked into and disabled Saturday.

The site was relaunched at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Tax Collector Janet Holley said.

"It was a nice wake-up call for everyone to re-evaluate where we are," Holley said.

"We found out how the hacker got in.

I think we have all the right things in place, but we are still reviewing our processes to see if there is any other kind of layer we can put in place to prevent this from happening again."

After about 2:20 p.m. Saturday, site users were greeted by a message that read:

"Hacked by m0sted (Turkish) No War."

The site was taken down by the Tax Collector's Office at 4 p.m. Saturday.

"The good thing about this is everyone is looking at their systems throughout the state to make sure they're safe," she said.
